When personalizing a hand painted mailbox, use your name on the actual mailbox and put the box # on the post.  That way, if you move, you can take the hand painted mailbox with you and not worry about changing the box #.

I recommend resealing your hand painted mailbox every year or every other year.  An outdoor spray sealer works well.  I use a non-yellowing automotive spray topcoat.  If it protects your vehicle's finish from the elements, it will also protect your hand painted mailbox.  Make sure whatever sealer you use, that it is non-yellowing.  First clean your hand painted mailbox with soap and water and a soft sponge. Rinse well and dry thoroughly.  Spray on a couple light coats of sealer.  Do this on a day with low humidity and no wind. Or, just like you protect your vehicle's finish, you could apply an automotive wax and then buff.

Installation Tips - Customers are required to contact the local post office before installing a new mailbox and post to ensure its correct placement and height at the street.  Generally, mailboxes are installed at a height of 41 -45 inches from the road surface to the inside floor of the mailbox and are set back 6 - 8 inches from the front face of the curb or road to the edge of the mailbox door.

When installing a post - mount hand painted mailbox, I recommend using galvanized (non rusting) screws.  If the screws rust, it will spoil the look of your beautiful hand painted mailbox.
